Michael Vey: The Prisoner of Cell 25 by Richard Paul Evans   Five well-deserved stars

10-year-old Moon lived a life very different from other people.  He and his father lived in an isolated shelter that was covered with dirt and trees -  virtually impossible for anyone to detect - purposely hidden deep in a seemingly abandoned forest.  They had few traces of modern life - no electricity or running water, no store bought food, medicine, etc.  They survived by living off the land.  Moon never really questioned why they lived this way - he never knew anything different.  He did know that his father said they should never trust the government.  Moon's father taught him how to survive on his own, and said Moon should live in Alaska (far away from civilization) if anything ever happened to him.  He wanted him to find a place where other people distrusted the government also and were self-reliant. Moon's father held to his beliefs until he died.  His death from a broken leg could have easily been prevented with modern medicine or surgery, but he refused to re-enter society to seek treatment.  Suddenly Moon is all alone and unprepared to function in modern society. After Moon buries his father, he's discovered by a man who has built a home on the same property as Moon and his father's cave.  Life for Moon is turned upside down when he is sent to a group boy's home.   Unable to cope with all the changes and forced rules, Moon decides to escape.

His survival skills enable him to outrun and "whip" up on anybody - no matter their age or size.  Though he has what it takes to live on his own, Moon finds out being alone can actually be very lonely.  And though Moon does not need anyone else to help him live, he wants love, affection, and friendship. Moon realizes that maybe, just maybe, his Pa was wrong all along. I could write pages and pages about this incredible story.  Moon is very rough around the edges, but you can't help but cheer him on throughout the story.  You want him to find happiness and your heart aches for the struggles he has to face when he must live in a world vastly different from his own.  The ending of this book is perfect, and (get ready) may make you shed a tear or two.  I admire the creativity of this book and the original plot.  This book is the best novel I have read in a long time - truly amazing.

  2. Alabama Moon is a sad book. Moon doesn't live like other people are rused to, instead of living in a regular house like others he lives far down in the forest that no one usually goes to. Moon's father is aginst the goverment so he teaches him to live and survive off the land, therefor he and his father makes and cathes their own food, their own clothes, and their own dishes. Moon's father keeps his thought of being aginst the goverment until one day he gets a broken leg and dies, he could ahve survived this if he would have just went to the hospital and got help, but since he doesn't want anything to do with the goverment he refuses to go and leaves Moon all alone in the world. After he is alone he finds out about a man who helpes him a lot who settels in the same property as he and his father. Then Moon is sent to a pinson a home of boys where he can't handel the changes he goes through so he decides to escape. Luckily for him the skills that his father has taught him comes in handy when he is trying to escape the law and is convicted of a murder. After being without anyone for a while he finds himself alone without love or attention, then he starts to think that his father was wrong all along. This part in the story was my favorite part because it helped me see a movie in my head when moons father gets hurt and refuses to go to the hospital just because he hates the goverment. Alabama moon by Watt Key really touched me because it showes that Moon didn't give up even in his hardest time.

  3. Alambama Moon was really good. If I had to rate this book 1-10 I would give it a 10 because it is about a boy who lives in the forest with his dad. The boy’s mom died when he was young. So him and his dad trys to survive in the forest. The dad does not like the gov’t so they hide from the gov’t. Then the dad gets an infection in his leg and he dies. So now the boy has to survive on his own. He wants to go to Alaska. But instead he gets sent to this foster home for boys. He tries to escape with his friends on a bus. They are trying to reach Alaska. One of his friends get hurt and then he dies. So he does not go to Alaska.

  4. Alabama Moon by Watt Key is a very sad book. The book is about a young boy who is named Moon and faces serious challenges. Moon is left alone when his dad gets a broken leg and he doesn't want to got to the hospital because he hates the goverment. Moon is then taken to a boys home where the constable makes his stay very uncomfortable. I like this book becasue it shows how Moon learns to face his challenges. I recommened this book to anyone because I think everyone will enjoy it.

  5. Alabama Moon by Watt Key is a great book. I think you should read this book if you would love to see the struggles, that a kid has to go thruogh. Moon's mother had passed away and he is forced to live in the forest with his father. Soon his father dies, and has planned to go to Alaska and find other people like himself. You should see what Moon gos through when he breaks out of Pinson , a boys home, and has two other boys along with him. Continously Officer Sanders, who works at the boys home, looks for them in the forest where they were hiding. Byt every time he thinks that he has them Moon finds some way to get them out. Look for this book and I believe that you will like it.
