Thirteen-year-old Ali knew her mother was different from her friend's.  She seemed to be afraid of many things, was way too protective of her, and always seemed stressed and tense. Ali didn't realize then that her mother had a closely guarded secret - one that had haunted her since childhood.

Ali thought her summer at the lake babysitting her niece would be the perfect getaway.  That was until the strange little girl showed up.  The little girl named Sissy - who had secrets of her own.  Soon Ali learns of the horrible secret her mother has been carrying all of these years.  Someone wants revenge for what Ali's mother has done.  Will Ali be the one paying the price?

 This scary ghost story will have you hooked until the last page!

    I read this book and i couldnt bielve it i loved this book so much that i suggest everyone should read it. This book is about a girl named Ali and she finds a picture but it had been torn out. Her aunt asked Ali to babysit Emma her cousin so she could go to the cabin where the picture had been taken there are dark secrets hid inside the cabin. Emma wanted a friend to play with and one day she came a girl named Sissy and if you ask me shes not a very good friend. Sissy is trying to tell Ali secrets about what happened to the girl in the photo her name is teresa. Sissy tells Ali all about the death of Teresa and says that her mom and aunt killed her but she doesnt bielve that. you have to read it to find out if they did kill Teresa and if Teresa still haunts the cabin.

    I read this book and now im suggesting you to read it. This book just makes you want to keep reading. A girl named Ali finds a photo that has the letter T on it. The photo was taken at a lake. Alis aunt wanted her to babysit Emma,her cousin for the summer at a cabin. It was where Alis mom and aunt spent there childhood. There was three children on the photo and Ali didnt know who the last girl was. Emma wanted a friend because she had been so lonley. And one day a friend came named sissy but if you ask me she wasnt anything like a friend. Sissy tells Ali that the girl in the phot was Teresa and she had drowned along time ago. Sissy also siad that Alis mom and aunt drowned her. But, Ali did not beilve her. Sissy comes to be known as somethingelse than human. Who killed Teresa? Who is Sissy? What does Sissy want? READ THE BOOK!!!!!!!!

    What i liked about the book was that they got alot of imagry in the book. My favorite imagry in the book was when Ali was brushing Teresa's hair and she had fish smelling seaweed wrapped hair , that her skin felt smooth and boneless. And also how her mom and aunt were so defensive to bring up the subject of Sissy or Theresa. And the last one was that Sissy/Teresa and Ali became friends at the end of the book.

    I liked this book! Their was alot of things i did not get in the begining like why clair will not tell who the person in the riped foto was. I was surprised how it ended. Mrs. Moniouk finished reading the book today.

    I liked this book!!!!! It wasnt so scary but it gave the chills. I dont like to read but this would be the best book i have ever read. I liked it because it was very intresting and mysterious like, at the begining they found a photo and half the photo was gone, and through the story they tried to find out who it was. And they meetthis girl name "Sissy". By the end of the story they finnaly figure out who the picture is. Read to find out.

    This book was the best book that i have read so far! It is about a girl who goes to the lake for the summer with her aunt. Come to find out there are many secrets that live within the cottage. I love this book and i recomend this to any readers who enjoy suspensful, and very scary books.

    I enjoyed this book really much it has lots of mysteries in it. It was very spooky and scary. I like the part when Dulcie grabs the doll out of emmas hands and she throws it in to the water. Sissy was really mad about that. I also liked when ali found teresa's grave with the red sweatshirt that sissy was wearing and ali was really freaked out and she go so scared. I really liiked it.... ;)

    This book is simply amazing! It is such a page turner! I would definitively recommend this book! I luv this author she is a grat author and so is gabrielle zevin!! Elsewhere is also a good page turner about a girl who dies and lies in elsewhere and well its a good book . this one is too :))

    Deep and Dark and Dangerous, were to start! Lets just say it was the scariest book i've ever read it will have you on the edge until the last page. Its basically about an old cabin were a girl her aunt and her cousin go to stay for the summer. But the catch is that the girl's aunt used to live there and is moving back to live her carrer as an artist. Ally finds a picture of the her mother her aunt and a mysterios cut out figure at the cabin's lake.
    And thats just the beginning of this lakeside thriller! when ally comes to the cabin with her aunt and cousin shell be babysitting she and her cousin see a little girl who goes by the name of sissy that throughout the book they can only see. creepy right !!!! want to know more well read it for yourself

    trust me you wont be dissapointed!!!!!!!!

    deep dark and dangerous is the most scariest book out of all these 10. Deep dark and da ngerous is mainly about this girl aunt wants her neice to come with her to an old lake her and her sister used to go to her mom doesnt want her to go but she lets her go anyway ........
    they meets this girl named sissy and somehow sissy nows about the girl mother and they had a firendship in the past......maybe im running my mouth to much im just going to bequiet.

    This book really gave me the goosebumps. This book is filled with suspense, mystery, and tragedy. The changing moods of Sissy (Teresa) really kept you wondering on how to think of her. Until she revieled her self in that horrorific trip in the canoe.

    This book is great! I am not really into ghost stories, but this is really cool. Ally is just like any middle schooler, untill she went to Gull Cottage. Fasted-pased and packed with twist, anyone with an active imagination would love this book!! :-)

    This was a amazing book! I loved how it kept me on the edge of my seat. It's so suspenseful! This book is about Ali. Ali was searching through her attic when she found a torn picture of her mom and her aunt and someone who was torn out. This picture leads far back when her mom was her age. It leads to a very big mystery! The girl that Ali keeps seeing is the girl from the picture! This is so interesting! I give this book 4.5 stars!

    this book was great it is a really good ghost story. the story is mainly about a brat named Sissy. she is always mean to Emma and Allie. she tried to push Allie over a cliff. She got Emma and Allie into a conoe and tiped it over and almost drowned them both. In the end Allie and everybody else finds out that Sissy is a ghost. And all she wants is somebody to find her body and give her a proper bariual. In the end she gets what she wants and everything is back to normal and nobody gets haunted. So if you like scary books or mistery books this is the book for.

    Omg, i must tell you that i absolutley HATE reading cause i could never f ind a good book that interested me. But my best friend was trying to find me a good book to read in 6th grade, she happened to pick this one. And i hadn't read it since this year. 8th grade. I can'y beilvie i had this awesome book with me the last 2 years and just read it, i sure was missing out. I'm not reading your book "Promises to the Dead" I'm hoping its just as good as this one.     I read this book when I was in 5th grade when I bought it from my book fair. I absolutely loved it ! I cried too I have re read it about 4 times and cried every single time.     This book was great it hasd me at the end of my chair. at first i wasnt really into it . Book after i started linstening. The book keeps you thinking about whats going to happen and who is what and everything. I give this book 5 stars ***** :) My favorite part in the book is when she fines the pictuer of mom and that girl . It make me want to keep me wanting to know what is going to happen. It maed me mad when i had to stop reading cause it just got to a good part of the book. (:

    Dear Mary Downing Hanh, I love this book you wrote its better than, "Wait Till Helen Comes." Im on Chapter 14 and I just started yesterday. I think You should make these books into movies or at least come up with a series because I love your books! My favorite part so far is when they see the message written on Dulcie's paper thats when a big rush of thoughts ran through my head! Love ya.

    I personally love this book, it's one of my favorites! My teacher read it to our class at the begenning of the year and she read one chapter each day! At the end of every chapter i wanted to know more. It was very detailed and that's what i loved about it, it was such an amazing book! Annd i would reccomend it to anyone who likes a mystery book! :)

    I read this book and now im suggesting you to read it. This book just makes you want to keep reading. A girl named Ali finds a photo that has the letter T on it. The photo was taken at a lake. Alis aunt wanted her to babysit Emma,her cousin for the summer at a cabin. It was where Alis mom and aunt spent there childhood. There was three children on the photo and Ali didnt know who the last girl was. Emma wanted a friend because she had been so lonley. And one day a friend came named sissy but if you ask me she wasnt anything like a friend. Sissy tells Ali that the girl in the phot was Teresa and she had drowned along time ago. Sissy also siad that Alis mom and aunt drowned her. But, Ali did not beilve her. Sissy comes to be known as somethingelse than human. Who killed Teresa? Who is Sissy? What does Sissy want? READ THE BOOK!!!!!!!!
