ReplyDeleteDo you love the life of swimming pools, cars for every day of the week, huge mansion, and your $5'000 stereo?
ReplyDeleteSo did Brett Gerson, whose dad was a stockbroker, who just somehow raked in serious money, but one day Brett opens the door and sees about a dozen police men and the guys in the white suits. Brett's dad tries to run, and is arrested for taxes owed, (now before I tell you the fine, SIT DOWN!) an approximate ten million ($10'000'000) dollars!
He is arrested and sentenced to two and a half (2 1/2) years in jail, but how did he get all of that money?!?!? Insider trading.
so all of the stuff I listed up top, Brett no longer had, so he got a job, then quit, and finally got another job with this mid seventies guy named Alfie Moore, cleaning pools...
to find out what happened after, grab the book and read the end!
You did a great job reviewing this book, Eligijus! I am looking forward to our discussion!
ReplyDeleteIn the beginning of the book, Brett states he really hates his father. Do you think he actually feels this way? Does he have a right to express this hatred? Why or why not?
ReplyDeleteI don't think Brett really feels this way. I mean he just lost millions of dollars, how do you think he should feel? If I just lost a million dollars I would be pretty ticked off too! I think he has plenty of right to express his feelings. But sometimes he can get a little agressive towards his father, friends and the rest of his family.
ReplyDeletei love to swim and if i were deprived of my pool i would die! i have never had a 5,000 doller steroe before but i could not live without my laptop. i also really think that he hates his father. if he calls him a jerk and a loser all thime he must really hate him.
ReplyDeletewhat is really wierd is the difference between brett and hannah. brett stays p oed all the time while hannah does not express any emotios at all
ReplyDeleteI think Brett has a right to be mad, too. I agree with Joseph, though, in his statement that Brett can be too aggressive in his anger. As Tiffany said, the biggest wound to Brett is the broken trust he now has with his father. Billy, your observation about Hannah is interesting. I think she is less concerned with the loss of materialistic things compared to her brother. Of course, the author is writing from Brett's point of view (1st person) so the reader is not sure what Hannah is really experiencing or what her thoughts are all the time.
ReplyDeletePool boy is a good book. i recomend to anyone who can read. i'ts abouth a boy, brett, whose father cheated on the stock market and the c0ps found out and busted his nose on the kitchen floor. brett stays mad all throught the book until the end when he loses a very important friend. g00D reading!!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Pool Boy, but Brett did get on my nerves a little bit. He reminded me of a friend that I had that complained a lot and didn't realize how great she had it until it was gone. Did anyone else relate to the character?
ReplyDeleteI agree that I would be mad if I had to change my lifestyle that drastically. I don't know if I could have talked to my dad like he did though. The author really did a great job displaying Brett's anger.
I hope I get to meet with you all in the next book club meeting!
You read my mind, Ms. Davis! I was reading last night and thought...boy, Brett is such a spoiled jerk! He really has a lot to learn about life.
